A NOTE ABOUT ACNE
By Jacqueline Markferding, Esthetician
What is Acne?  Acne is one of the most common of all skin problems.
It can affect most teenagers to some degree, as well as many adults.
Acne occurs around the hair follicle and the sebacious oil glands, and
shows up as whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and in some cases,
large painful bumps that look and feel like boils.  Acne most commonly occurs on the face, but can also occur on the neck, chest, back, shoulders, scalp and even the upper arms and legs.

Studies have shown that a majority of acne can be linked to a genetic
factor.  Other factors that play a role in acne include stress, use of certain drugs, sunlight, climate, diet, use of certain cosmetics, pressure and friction, picking, hormonal irregularities and pregnancy.

We need to take the approach of eliminating the blemishes and targeting the root cause of acne by unclogging the pores and keeping them clear.  This can be achieved through professional skin care treatments, along with an appropriate at-home skin care regimen.

Balanced nutrition, lifestyle, and stress management to bring your body, mind and spirit back into balance also play a significant role in preventing and eliminating acne.
